Business Category
The classification you assign to your Google Business Profile that tells Google what you do.
A business category is the label you choose on your Google Business Profile to describe what your business is, such as "Italian Restaurant" or "Emergency Plumber." You select one primary category and can add secondary categories to capture additional services you offer.
Categories are one of the strongest relevance signals in local ranking. Your primary category carries the most weight and largely determines which searches you are eligible to appear for. Choosing the most specific accurate category, rather than a broad or loosely related one, can noticeably change your visibility.
For owners, category selection deserves careful thought and occasional review. Picking the precise primary category and adding relevant secondary ones ensures Google shows you for the searches that actually match the work you do.
