Backlink

A link from another website to yours, treated by search engines as a vote of trust.

A backlink is a hyperlink on another website that points to your site. Search engines treat backlinks as endorsements, reasoning that if a reputable site links to you, your content is likely credible and useful. The quantity and, more importantly, the quality of your backlinks are longstanding factors in how well pages rank.

Not all backlinks are equal. A link from a respected local newspaper, an industry association, or a well-known partner carries far more weight than dozens of links from low-quality or spammy sites, which can even do harm. Relevance matters too, since a link from a related local site signals more than a random one.

For a local business, natural backlinks often come from community involvement: sponsoring an event, being featured in local press, partnering with nearby businesses, or earning mentions from local blogs. These links build the domain authority that supports your organic rankings.
